Lie Chair Is A Stool That Unfolds Into A Coffee Table

When folded up, the Lie Chair looks like a low side table, with enough support on the frame to serve as a sturdy stool. Unfold it and the whole thing turns into a long coffee table, with plenty of surface space to hold your living room gear.

The brainchild of German designer, Andrei Pop, it consists of three equally-sized wood panels, each one with a triangle-shaped structure on the underside that serve as feet in coffee table mode. Aside from serving as support, those triangle structures can also serve as storage compartments for holding a variety of items that you’d rather not have lying around.

The Lie Chair is made from solid waxed silver fir, a moderately soft type of wood, with a polished finish. The panels are connected together using metal hardware in a hinged configuration, allowing them to easily fold and unfold during transformation, with the triangle frames forming an X-shape when the whole thing is folded up. Each one is handmade from scratch, so each example carries some unique differences.

Oh yeah, if you keep cats around, those triangle structures look like a natural place to turn into a private cave for your pets, where they can crawl into and nap the day away. Just soften it up with some fabrics (if that’s how your cats roll) and it’s good to go.
