Sometimes, you want a shelf on that blank patch of the wall. Other times, you don’t want a shelf – just something else to break the monotony. Well, stop torturing yourself and put up this Flapps Shelving System, a wall-mounted shelf that can be folded when not in use.
When closed up, it looks like a frame that displays nothing but a plank of wood. Of course, you can always glue a print or a picture in there, as well as paint it over with some artsy patterns, to turn it into a wall display when not serving its primary function as a storage space.
Created by Ambivalenz, Flapps Shelving System comes in five sizes and configurations, three of which come with a single shelf, one with dual shelves, and one with three. Designed to be modular, you can mount multiple units in creative arrangements along a wall, giving you access to plenty of shelves that you can simply flip open as the need arises. Even better, when you mount one of the shelves, you can simply add to them by stacking new shelves on top using an integrated mechanism (maximum of four shelves stacked to a wall-mounted unit), so there’s less work needed to install multiple units. The modular mechanism is also compatible with several of the outfit’s other products (including their wall-mounted vanity cabinets, wall desks, and secretaries).
The Flapps Shelving System is only available in black and white, although buyers are encouraged to creatively customize it for decorative purposes. Price starts at €125.
