If space is a concern in your daughter’s bedroom or play room, then finding furniture and toys that can make the most use of it should be a prime consideration. This Dollhouse Chair definitely passes that space-maximizing criteria.
Designed by Torafu Architects, it’s a kid’s chair that can transform into a dollhouse, letting you have both a piece of furniture and a toy occupying the same floor area. It’s gorgeous, too, with neither the chair nor the dollhouse being compromised for the sake of the dual-purpose function.
When folded up, the Dollhouse Chair looks like a perfectly comfortable seating furniture, sized just right for the younger girls in the house. Open it up, however, and you’re treated to quite an elaborate dollhouse, which comes complete with a garage, a second floor, and even an attic. All rooms are meticulously outfitted, with detailed miniature furnishings (Japanese-style beds, bookshelves, living room seats, and more), a car (for the garage), a bathtub (for the bathroom), and even playground toys for the lawn (a swing and a slide). The best part? You can use the spacious dollhouse as extra storage for books and smaller toys, so you can keep a tidier room if you’ve been running out of boxes to hide stuff in.
Construction is birch plywood for the whole thing, with a mix of red and natural wood color for finish. In chair mode, it measures a compact 36.5 x 54 x 35.5 cm.
The Dollhouse Chair is available now, priced at ¥28,000.
