Miito Is An Energy-Saving Alternative To Boiling Water In Kettles

Whether you’re heating a kettle on a stovetop or using an electric water heater, there’s a good chance there’s more water in the vessel than you’ll need for single cup. It’s fine if you’re serving hot drinks for more than one person, but if you’re only making tea for yourself, you’re very likely wasting a lot of energy. Miito is a new device that lets you boil water right in the cup.

The device consists of two parts: an induction base where you place the cup on and a magnetic rod that you drop inside the cup. When switched on, the base will release heat via magnets that the rod then picks up, creating an electromagnetic field that raises the temperature of the surrounding water.

Designed by Danish studio Chudy and Grase, Miito can heat, pretty much, any liquid, as long as you place the vessel on top of the base and put the rod inside. That means, you can use it not just to make hot water for tea, but for warming soups, milk, and any other hot beverage you like to have at home. Of course, there’s still the question of what kind of taste that rod leaves on the drink, but other than that, this thing looks sweet.

As of now, Miito is still in the prototype stage, with further development still ongoing. It’s an interesting approach to an age-old kitchen activity, although its actual practicality may be questionable, considering many people tend to heat single cups in the microwave anyway.
